Rennes is the capital of Brittany, a former province and current region in northwestern France located on the European Atlantic Arc. The city has about 225,000 residents, but its metropolitan area includes more than 770,000 people. Since the late 20th century, it has become an important economic hub focused on digital and new technologies. It is one of the major student cities in France, with nearly 66,000 students. Labeled as a City of Art and History, Rennes has preserved significant medieval and classical heritage in its historic center.
